Road to Beauty are a team of Makeup Artists, Hair Stylists and Beauty Therapists. We put together customised and all-inclusive wedding and event packages relative to your special day. Mobile or in Salon, we can cater for 1 person through to larger groups. From the pre-wedding pampering and necessities, hair and makeup trials right through to the big day. As we are a team at Road to Beauty – we have a lot of experts in their individual professional fields. We allocate the correct professionals to your style and requirements. At the ripe age of 46, having children and travelled, it enables me to relate to all kinds of people and situations, understanding what people want and making them feel special.
What do you love best about what you do?
I love that I get to utilise years of finely honed skills with makeup all day, every day and see people ecstatic and thankful when my work is complete. I love that I get to see and meet people on one of their most happiest and memorable days. It is an honour and a privilege to be part of that. To make them feel special, unique and listen to their wishes is indeed a very special job. Makeup and Hair is very much in people’s personal spaces, so requires certain amounts of life skills. The emotions that occur prior to and during a wedding are special and confidential to them. I have left many a wedding preparation feeling extremely honoured to have been part of it all, and ….. have shed a few tears on occasion :).
Whats your favourite thing to do on your day off?
Do anything with my beautiful boys Fergus (11), Rory (9) and my forever understanding husband Craig. Catch up with friends and family, drink wine and ski either on the lake or the mountain.
Tell us something about you?
I was born in Scotland and moved out to New Zealand when I was 7. I returned to the UK for 7 years in the 90’s and travelled extensively. My husband and I moved to Wanaka 10 years ago from Auckland for lifestyle having 2 busy extreme boys and have not looked back. I have been obsessed with makeup since I could walk – I drove my entire family crazy by shaving chalk particles and adding water to it to make coloured pastes to paint all over my dolls and in turn my poor long suffering sisters. Spending any pocket money I had on lipsticks and eyeshadows and playing for hours with it instead of studying. Safe to say – nothing has changed on the makeup front; I continuously research products and test anything of interest. At least all the makeup is safe in my all male household.
Whats do you think is new and upcoming in weddings?
With the Same Sex weddings now being allowed in NZ, I think we will definitely be a preferred destination choice.
I am seeing with a lot of my brides currently, reverting back to more traditional methods again. Hand written notes etc.
What can guests expect from you at the fair (that maybe they wouldn’t otherwise see)?
A personal touch. They can get to meet us and talk things through instead of email and Skype.
